1 About the Artist

Mahsa Soroudi is a Iranian women who is married. She used to travel to a lot of Asian countries and had a very good understanding to different cultures. Her husband and her shared the interest to move out of Iran so they could have better lives. They moved to Malaysia and learned English their. She states that there are a lot of conflicting ideas of Iran because everyone has a different point. She likes Iran because things started to get better.

2 Formal Analysis

Nature’s Cadence is one of Mahsa project. New succulents form off each other and the pieces when they start off help it grow, but then they turn into food to make it grow more. The plants taught her how to remain beautiful and strong because the plants remind her of herself on how she struggles and adapt to a new home. Each succulent is an aesthetic value to her. The plants really inspired her to be patient and strong as well.

3 Content Analysis

The plants are supposed to be like her. In the beginning, the plants start off struggling for life, just like her when she moved to the U.S. Then after a while, they begin to start to branch out. Mahsa dreamed for more when she left, so she began to try and make herself feel more like home. It took her a while, because she felt home sick, but after a while it began to feel like home. Just like the plant, it eats where started to keep growing, meaning she still remembers where she came from, but she will move on and keep living life.

4 Synthesis/ My Experience

In my opinion, Mahsa does relate a lot to a succulent plant. Starts off with a rocky beginning, but then fights her way to grow into the person she is now. This was a great video to watch. Also I found watching the video was more interesting to do than actually speak to a artist because you have more experience in asking questions. I feel a little bit sorry though that she had to leave home for a better life though. I would find it hard to leave home for a better life because it is a big change to just live a whole new life without a plan to tell you what to do.
