1 About the artist
Sienna Browne is an artist currently in her fourth year of drawing and painting at Cal State Long Beach. She is a life guard and also a middle school youth leader. She began to do art as a child and continued since then. She struggled with multiple eating disorders and drew about it without even knowing. Once she was in college, she found out how to heal from all the bad things in her life
2 Formal Analysis
The curves of the stomach show like weight on a person. The black and white part of it shows the sad life of what society thinks is sad. It is very large because she putted on the projector for the power point. The texture makes the stomach look very squishy like a lot of fat.
3 Content Analysis
She was drawing her brother’s stomach, but she messed up and made him look fat. She then decided to use it to compare the body that people do not want in society and used black and white to make it look sad. She drew his body because she was drawing about her eating disorders without even knowing.
4 Synthesis/ My Experience
In my experience, I would have not guess that her drawings were about her eating disorders in life. I like the picture she showed in class about the sushi roll. I feel sorry for her and her past, but I am grateful that she has found a way to become happy again. Her paintings do explain the eating disorders, but still I would have not guessed that she had an eating disorder.
